Inspiratory Muscle Training Explained
Inspiratory muscle training, or IMT, adds load to the inward breath. Research programs often use a defined pressure load; not every adjustable breathing exerciser represents the same measured training method.
The inward breath and added load
Inhalation involves muscle work. IMT applies an additional load to that work through a specific device and protocol. Expiratory training loads the outward breath instead.
What research can tell you
Defined IMT studies examine outcomes such as inspiratory pressure and exercise performance. Results depend on participants, training duration and equipment. Our science behind breathing trainers page links to reviews and explains the limits.

Where Downshift Air fits
AIR is an adjustable resistance wellness tool. We do not claim it reproduces a calibrated clinical IMT dose. For a sport-related habit, start with the breathing trainer for running guide and seek professional input for prescribed training.
Safety comes first
Downshift Air is a fitness and wellness product, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. If you have a respiratory, cardiovascular or medical condition, speak with a healthcare professional before starting resistance breathing training.
